The Vanishing Point Series
These photos were all taken from 2020-22 and reflect the effect COVID has had on my practice. I shifted away from my traditional photographic preoccupations with workers, people at play, police, and the transformation of the city by capital. I became interested in how to depict universal experiences of beauty and wonder during this time of high anxiety. I found myself particularly drawn to landscapes that overwhelmed or evoked deep mystery. In particular, I was drawn to some of the preoccupations of the Romantic painters of the nineteenth century. Taking these photographs has been profoundly sustaining for me through this difficult time, and I hope others find some joy in them too.
